Desk and chair designed by Frits Henningsen, Denmark
1950/60s

Rosewood & leather seat.

One of the key aspects of Henningsen’s design philosophy was his focus on comfort and the ergonomic aspects of furniture. His pieces were designed to be both pleasing to the eye and comfortable, often experimenting with the shapes and angles of seating to ensure optimal support.

Henningsen's work is recognized for its subtle elegance and careful attention to detail. Unlike many of his contemporaries, he opted not to fully adopt industrial production methods, preferring to concentrate on handcrafted items. His designs frequently incorporated traditional elements like curved forms and understated ornamentation, distinguishing them in a time that favored minimalism and functionality.

Frits Henningsen (1889-1965) was not only a skilled craftsman and designer but also operated his own exclusive furniture store in Copenhagen. He was intricately involved in every stage of his furniture's production, from design to manufacturing, and retail. This level of dedication is uncommon among designers, but Henningsen maintained it to ensure the quality and craftsmanship of his pieces remained high.
