‘Captain’s’ Bar’ designed by Reno Wahl Iversen for Dyrlund
Denmark, 1960s
Rosewood. Reno Wahl Iversen was a Danish designer active during the mid-20th century, best known for his innovative bar cabinets, particularly those manufactured by Dyrlund in the 1960s. Dyrlund, a Danish furniture company renowned for its high-quality craftsmanship and timeless designs, played a key role in producing some of Iversen’s most sought-after pieces.
This Captain’s Bar, one of his most celebrated designs. The cabinet’s central section features four circular cut-outs, designed to securely hold bottles, while an integrated metal sink and ashtray reflect the rituals of hosting during its era. Flanking the centre, symmetrical shelving units provide dedicated space for glassware and bar tools, while two neatly fitted drawers and open storage compartments ensure practical organisation. Hinged doors and a foldable tabletop enhance the cabinet’s functionality, creating an ideal workspace for mixing drinks when entertaining. Iversen’s meticulous attention to both utility and aesthetics is evident throughout the design, making this bar cabinet a prime example of his work.
