Carpet ‘Nyponblomman’ designed by Märta Måås-Fjetterström, for MMF AB, Sweden
1940s
SignedWool.
Nyponblomman draws inspiration from the wild rose hips that grew along the shoreline near Måås-Fjetterström’s home. She was a keen observer of nature and often gravitated towards its more understated floral motifs. In this rug, she stylised and adapted the rose hip’s forms into a geometric pattern.
Märta Måås-Fjetterström was a pioneer of Swedish textile art, and her work remains highly sought after for its artistic quality and craftsmanship. Nyponblomman exemplifies her talent for merging nature-inspired motifs with geometric precision, resulting in a timeless and elegant design.
Märta Måås-Fjetterström (MMF) was a renowned Swedish textile artist (1873–1941) who established her own weaving studio in Båstad in 1919. After her passing, the workshop was restructured in 1942 into Aktiebolaget Märta Måås-Fjetterström (AB MMF) to preserve and continue her artistic legacy. The studio is known for its high-quality handwoven rugs and textiles, blending traditional Nordic patterns with modernist influences.
