Chandelier model 341 designed by Erik Höglund for Boda
Sweden, 1960s

Wrought iron and glass.

Erik Höglund designed the Model 341 chandelier in collaboration with Boda Smide. Boda Smide was established by the Smith Axel Strömgren in 1962, in response to a successful collaboration between Höglund and Strömgren. Höglund designed a number of these chandeliers in varying sizes for the workshop. This example is one of the largest produced at the time.

The iron would have been hand hammered and the glass hand blown and impressed with motifs. A number of small and large medallions hang from the iron structure. The larger medallions are impressed with four different motifs: a horse, a bulls head, a fish and a face. The expression was joyous, rustic, and folksy. Boda Smide still has a small-scale and traditional production of Erik's design in the local area.

Erik Höglund (1932–1998) was a highly influential Swedish designer, sculptor, and artist renowned for his innovative approach to glassmaking. He studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm (Konstfack). His early fascination with materials, especially glass, would define his career. In 1953, at the young age of 21, Höglund joined Kosta Boda, a prestigious Swedish glassworks. During his career he also collaborated with the workshop Boda Smide.
