Berit Ternell is a distinguished Swedish ceramic artist and designer, renowned for her significant contributions to mid-20th-century Scandinavian ceramics. She studied at the Handicraft Society School in Gothenburg and, after graduating in 1950, undertook an internship at Upsala-Ekeby. Throughout the 1950s, Ternell collaborated with various notable manufacturers, including Bo Fajans, T.G. Green Pottery in England, Reijmyre Glassworks, and Rörstrand. In 1957, she joined Gefle Porslinsfabrik as a leading designer, a position she held for 14 years. In 1971, Ternell returned to Gothenburg to teach art at the Högskolan för Design och Konsthantverk (HDK), a department of the University of Gothenburg, until her retirement in 1974.
Ternell's work is characterized by a harmonious blend of form and function, reflecting the principles of Scandinavian design. Her designs remain highly regarded and continue to be celebrated for their timeless appeal.
