Floor lamp ‘Bridge’ designed by Severin Hansen Jr. for Haslev Möbler
Denmark, 1950s

Beech and Le Klint shade.

The floor lamp 'Bridge' designed by Severin Hansen for Haslev likely derives its name from a fascination with tree lines, the natural boundaries that mark transition points between trees and rocks. The gently curved and elongated wooden stem of the lamp echoes the natural lines of a tree trunk, which grows upward while subtly bending and narrowing toward its upper branches.

The lamp features a gracefully curved wooden stem, creating an elegant arc that supports a pleated conical shade. Its slender tripod base, with tapered legs spreading outward, complements the overall lightness and organic flow of the design, embodying Danish modern minimalism.

Severin Hansen was a renowned Danish furniture designer known for his elegant and minimalist mid-century modern creations. Active primarily during the 1950s and 1960s, Hansen collaborated with notable Danish manufacturers such as Haslev Møbelsnedkeri. Haslev Møbelsnedkeri was founded in 1960. However, some sources indicate that in 1952, Knud Windahl Pedersen and Henry Aunbirk established the company with Hans Severin Hansen as a co-owner.

This Danish floor lamp ‘Bridge’ was designed by Severin Hansen in the 1950s. The white shade elegantly hangs from a curved beech stem that balances on three stable feet. The design brings to mind organic forms commonly found in nature.

Little is known about Severin Hansen's life, and yet his designs show exceptional craftsmanship and use of materials.
