Floor lamp, model number 2426 designed by Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn
Sweden, 1950s

Brass, leather, textile shades.

Josef Frank viewed lighting as a key element in shaping a warm and inviting interior. Rejecting stark, functionalist designs, he favoured lamps that softened spaces and created a more welcoming atmosphere. Rather than relying on a single dominant light source, he embraced multiple points of illumination to achieve a layered and balanced ambience. This approach is evident in this design, where three gracefully curved brass arms rise to support fabric shades in red, yellow, and green, offering both practical lighting and a lively visual contrast.

Frank’s work for Svenskt Tenn reflects his ability to blend form, function, and decoration with effortless harmony. This floor lamp embodies his philosophy, combining fine materials, expert craftsmanship, and a vibrant use of colour to create a versatile design that complements both classic and contemporary interiors.
