Modernity exhibits at the PAD fair, 10 – 15 October
”The fair is an excellent opportunity to put collectors in contact with dealers, allowing clients to purchase exquisite pieces from every major art and design practice.” Says Andrew Duncanson, founder of Modernity.
Modernity exhibits Nordic design by the most significant names of the twentieth century such as Kaare Klint, Finn Juhl, Helge Vestergaard Jensen, Otto Schulz, Carl Malmsten, Alvar Aalto, Stig Lönnberg and Barbro Nilsson, to name a few.
One of the highlights of Modernity´s stand this year is a rare coffee table designed by Finn Juhl for Niels Vodder in 1941. Only two of these coffee tables are known to have been made. One of them was part of Juhl’s home, as shown by an early photograph of the piece in his house and a 1941 floor plan by the designer himself.
Internationally recognized as a prominent figure in the history of Scandinavian design during the 20th century, Josef Frank is showcased with a potentially one-of-a-kind dining table. This table is distinguished by its captivating root veneer and delicate, contrasting inlays of ebony and boxwood that grace its edge.
One significant floor lamps created by Paavo Tynell during the peak of his career as a designer in the 1940s will be displayed at the booth, alongside one of the earliest examples of the PH 4/3 lamp designed by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen in 1927.
Additionally we have bought three rugs created by Barbro Nilsson, which belong to her highly acclaimed "Salerno" collection for Märta Måås-Fjetterström. This collection is inspired by a touching tale dating back to 1947 when a plane, carrying twenty-five Swedish Air Force pilots, tragically crashed near Scala. Barbro Nilsson was subsequently tasked with designing these rugs as a tribute to the memory of those Air Force pilots.
These pieces are currently appearing alongside the work of contemporary acclaimed ceramicist Sandra Davolio.
