Originally in Gamla Stan, Modernity moved to this spacious central location in April 2003. Since then the showroom has gone from strength to strength, largely due to the good taste and passion of its owner – not a Swede, but the Scotsman Andrew Duncanson. Famed the world over for its fine vintage collection, particularly by the grand masters of the Scandinavian style, such as Wegner, Mathsson, Aalto, Juhl, Jacobsen, Wirkkala and Sarpaneva, it is the occasional limited editions by various established Swedish designers like Mats Theselius and Jonas Bohlin that are really worth fighting over. In addition Duncanson’s charming way of cunningly sliding in work by his favourite emerging contemporary designers, such as Caroline Schlyter, makes Modernity a must for any design junkie in need of a serious fix.
