Sculpture designed by Bengt Rosenström
Sweden, 1993

Black painted wood.

This 1993 sculpture by Bengt Rosenström is a striking example of abstract, modernist design from the early 1990s Nordic art scene. Crafted from black painted wood, the piece embodies a minimalist, geometric aesthetic while also presenting a sense of depth and complexity.

The sculpture is composed of numerous vertically aligned rectangular wooden elements, suspended within a box-like frame. These slats, juxtaposed with smoother, curved wooden shapes at the bottom, create a dynamic visual rhythm. The play of light and shadow on the matte black surface emphasises the contrasting textures and the spatial interaction between the solid forms and the voids around them.
