Sculpture ‘Tennisspelare’ (tennis player) by Vicke Lindstrand
Sweden, 1950s

Birch.

This sculpture captures the figure of a tennis player in motion, with fluid lines and an elongated form that stretches upward in a graceful arc. The figureis posed in a moment of anticipation before a serve. The simplicity of the material—natural birch wood—highlights Lindstrand's ability to transform humble materials into powerful artistic expressions. The polished surface of the birch gives the sculpture a lightness, contrasting the solidity of its abstracted form.

Marked with inventory number 800S from Vicke and Marianne Lindstrand's Foundation, this piece carries significant provenance. It was a personal gift from the Lindstrands to Hanne Dreutler, a notable glass artist, and has since remained in the Dreutler family's collection.
