Sculpture ‘Tjurhuvud’ by Edvin Öhrström
Sweden, 1952
Glass.Edvin Öhrström's "Tjurhuvud" (“Bullshead”) is one of his most famous works and stands as an important example of Swedish glass art in the 20th century. During the 1950s, Öhrström experimented casting large, modelled moulds for his glass sculptures, resulting in this piece called “Tjurhuvud”.
Öhrström is vastly known for combining the pure and fragile character of glass with heavy, robust forms. Öhrström was an important glass artist who made major commissions around Sweden, for example, a 37,5 meter high glass obelisk in the heart of Stockholm called “kristallvertikalaccent”.
In this piece, Öhström demonstrates his ability to push the boundaries of what glass can achieve and create something that feels both timeless and modern, with a unique sense of form and material.
