“The Flag Halyard Chair” designed by Hans Wegner for Getama, Denmark
1950s

Lacquered steel frame, rubber "shoes”, chromed steel top with flag halyard.

Designed by Hans J. Wegner in the 1950s for Getama, the ‘Flag Halyard Chair’ is an iconic example of Danish modernism. Interestingly, the concept for this chair emerged during a summer vacation at Wegner's seaside cottage.

The defining feature of the chair is its handwoven flag halyard rope seat and backrest—a durable material traditionally used in sailing. This unique element is supported by a lacquered steel frame with chromed steel accents and rubber “shoes” that provide stability and protect floors. The low-slung profile and dynamic lines embody the mid-century dedication to blending form and function.

Enhanced with a removable sheepskin throw and an upholstered head cushion, the chair balances its industrial frame with warmth and comfort, making it as inviting as it is visually striking. The wide seat and ergonomic design ensure an exceptional lounging experience.
