Description:

Hans J. Wegner's 1947 Peacock Chair (model PP550) exemplifies the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with modernist design principles. Drawing inspiration from the classic English Windsor chair, Wegner reinterpreted its form to create a piece that is both sculptural and functional. The chair's distinctive fan-like backrest, featuring flattened spindles, was likened to a peacock's tail by fellow designer Finn Juhl, giving the chair its enduring nickname.

Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) was one of the most influential Danish furniture designers of the 20th century and a central figure in the Danish Modern movement. Often referred to as the Master of the Chair, he designed over 500 chairs in his lifetime, many of which have become icons of modern design such as the Peacock Chair.
