Description:

Paavo Tynell designed this monumental ceiling lamp as a special commission for a private residence in Mikkeli, Finland, in 1949. The blossom-shaped brass spirals on the stem are typical for Tynell, and the lamp’s exquisitely curved lines give the piece an organic shape. Opaline glass shades protect the eye from the eight light sources.

Paavo Tynell (1890 – 1973) is one of the most important 20th-century lighting designers. He was a trained sheet metal worker – a unique background that influenced his recognisable aesthetic. The company Taito Oy was founded by Tynell himself because other manufacturers considered his creations too complex for production.
