This large floor standing urn was part of a group designed by Gunnar Nylund for the exterior of the Swedish pavilion at the 1937 Paris World's Fair. The Swedish Pavilion was designed by Sven Markelius, a prominent Swedish architect and key figure in Scandinavian modernism.

Gunnar Nylund (1904–1997) was a celebrated Swedish ceramicist and designer whose work profoundly influenced Scandinavian modernism. Born in Paris to a sculptor father and painter mother, he initially studied architecture in Copenhagen before shifting to ceramics. After co-founding a ceramic studio in Denmark, he became the artistic director at Rörstrand in the 1930s, where he developed iconic designs characterised by elegant forms, earthy tones, and innovative glazing techniques
